Last summer my partner and I moved from England to Switzerland. This move provided an opportunity for me to evaluate my passions in life and consider a redirection for my career. This brought me to Le Wagon, Zürich, where I completed an intensive bootcamp focussed around building applications using Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, HTML CSS/SCSS and GitHub . We also covered topics such as HTTP protocol, AJAX, APIs, regex, OOP, databases/ORM, UI/UX, product design, CI/CD, testing, security, validations, hosting and more. The final weeks were focussed on building two fully working apps where I first designed the user experience using Figma, developed the overall functionality, structure and backend of the app, as well as building user-friendly interactive features using JavaScript. On the course I also took the lead on managing workflow and the organisation of projects. My effort was recognised as I received the 'Coding Star' and 'Helping Hand' awards at the end of the course. I am driven and pro-active in developing my skills to ensure that I make forward progress, and since the end of the course I have enjoyed having the freedom to continue to develop my fluency with programming, challenging myself by learning other frameworks such as Django (Python), Spring (Java), React (JavaScript) and Angular (TypeScript), and applying this knowledge to my own projects.
